To paraphrase a famous proverb, at the Circle C Child Development Center we think that all work and no play makes for a very boring day. With this is mind, we are very pleased to share with you our newest upcoming feature – a master-planned outdoor learning environment.
Not your Ordinary Playground
While our young learners may still refer to it as a playground, this new outdoor space will promote even more engagement with the natural environment. This exciting project will dramatically transform the current outdoor space and will help us further our mission of supporting children’s development at every age. We anticipate construction beginning within the next month, with the outdoor learning environment scheduled to open in late spring.
The Goal and Design Features
The goal of the over 52,000-square-foot outdoor learning environment, which has been designed by the outstanding local design team, Stantec, is to enhance children’s academic success, social interactions and physical health. A number of creative features are incorporated into the design, including:
- Climbing beams
- Bank slides
- Wood stepping logs
- Natural log balance beams
The use of natural materials in lieu of a manufactured playscape aims to inspire creativity and problem solving while strengthening a connection to the outdoors. A pirate ship, race track and garage are included to provide settings for imaginative exploration.
